Ever since I was little dance has been a big part of my life. My soul needs it. Yet somewhere along my journey I stopped. I didn’t realize how much I missed it or how depressed I felt without it until I picked up a hoop. Hooping has brought me back to life in so many ways and I’m so thankful for this outlet.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Hoop X Portland workshop hosted by the ever lovely Morgan Jenkins. What a treat. Morgan has a way of making everyone feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged. She created an environment where we could feel safe exploring and trying new things without fear of judgement. She pushed us out of our comfort zones and helped us grow in all the best possible ways. She made a space for us to celebrate and embrace our uniqueness and I left with such a deep feeling of belonging.
This video is of my final solo hoopdance. I chose this song because of how empowered it makes me feel. I’ve called it my “soul song” for the past 2 years. I’ve danced to it countless times yet this was a special performance. It was my first time hooping in front of other hoopers and I felt nothing but love. No choreography here, just whatever flows from me in the moment. This was such a special experience that has inspired me in many ways.
